grammar_Articles

En anglès existeixen dos tipus d'articles:
- l'article indefinit "a / an", que equival en català a "un / una"
- l'article definit "the", equivalent a "el / la".

Els articles no tenen ni gènere ni nombre (a diferència del català).
The pencil.....The pencils
L'article indefinit "a / an" s'utilitza:
  • davant d'un nom singular, contable, que s'anomena por primera vegada en l'oració:
a table (una taula), a dog (un gos)
  • davant les professions:
I am a carpenter.(jo soc fuster), You are a lawyer. (tu ets advocat)
  • davant certes expressions de quantitat:
a lot (un munt), a little (un poc)
  • davant certs nombres:
a hundred (cent), a thousand (mil)
  • amb expressions de preu, velocitat, etc.:
10$ a kilo (10$ el quilo), 10 miles an hour (10 milles per hora)

L'article indefinit mai s'utilitza:

  • davant noms en plural:
a table (una taula), tables (taules)
  • davant noms que no són contables:
    water (aigua), milk (llet)

La forma de l'article indefinit "a" s'utilitza davant paraules que comencen por consonant, o per vocal amb so consonàntic:

A pencil....Un llàpis
A boy...Un nen

Mentres que la forma "an" s'utilitza davant palabras que comiencen per vocal:

An elephant......Un elefant
An angel....Un àngel

L'article definit "the" s'utilitza:

  • davant d'un nom, singular o plural, contable, que ja s'ha anomenat en l'oració o que pel context queda perfectament definit:
the car (el cotxe), the girl (la nena)
  • amb noms no contables utilizats amb un significat determinat:
the music of the sixties (la música dels 60's), the girl (la nena) - en canvi no s'utilitza quan aquests sustantius tenen un sentit genèric:
Music is life (la música és vida)
  • davant noms utilizats amb un significat col·lectiu:
the police (la policía), the army (l'exèrcit), the cinema (el cinema), the radio (la ràdio)
  • davant el nom de nacionalitats:
the Italians (els italians), the Spanish (els espanyols)
  • davant adjectius utilitzats com a nombres genèrics:
The rich are happy (els rics són feliços), The blind need help. (els cegs necessiten ajuda)

L'article definit no s'utilitza, en general, en els següents casos (encara que hi ha excepcions):

  • davant el nom de continents, països i ciutats:
    Africa, Spain, New York
  • davant noms de persones:
    Peter, Edward, Mary
  • davant noms utilitzats amb un sentit abstracte:
Life is beautiful. (la vida es bonica)
  • davant el nom de jocs i esports:
I play football. (jo jugo al futbol)
  • amb noms genèrics en plural:
Men are strong (els homes són forts)

grammar_Estructura de l'oració

L'oración afirmativa en anglès es construeix d'acord amb la següent estructura:

  • Subjecte + Verb + Objete Directe
    I eat apples
    She needs help

En l'oració negativa, l'auxiliar es situa davant el verb principal:

  • Subjecte + Auxiliar negació + Verb + Objete Directe
    I don't eat apples
    She doesn't need help

En l'oració interrogativa, l'auxiliar es situa al començament:

  • Auxiliar + Subjecte + Verb + Objete Directe ?
    Do I eat apples ?
    Does she need help ?

Altres complements de l'oració (lloc, temps, etc.) se solen situar al final:

  • I eat apples at lunchtime.
She needs help in your job.

Normalment, el complement de lloc va davant el complement de temps:

  • I eat apples at home at lunchtime.............(Jo mengo pomes a casa a l'hora de dinar)
She needs help in your job right now........(Ella necessita ajuda en el seu treball ara mateix)

Quan hi ha adverbis en les oracions, aquests se solen situar davant del verb en les formes simples, (i entre l'auxiliar i el verb principal en les formes compostes):

  • I always eat apples at home.
    She never needs help.
  • (I have always eaten apples at home
    She has never needed help.)

grammar_To have

El verb "to have" en català es tradueix com "haver" i "tenir", la seva conjugació en present simple és la següent:

Les contraccions d'aquestes formes són:

I/you/we/they have.............I/you/we/they've
He/she/it has.............He/she/it's

El verb "to have" pot utilitzar-se com a verb ordinari i té el significat de "tenir":

  • I have a car...........Jo tenc un cotxe
  • She has a friend.........Ella té un amic
La forma negativa, es construeix afegint not al darrera el verb, i també té una contracció:

  • I have not........I haven't
  • You have not....You haven't
  • She/He/It has not..........She/He/It hasn't
  • We have not.........We haven't
  • You have not......You haven't
  • They have not..........They haven't
En el cas de les interrogatives canviarem l'ordre de l'oració posant primer el verb "to have" i posteriorment el subjecte:

Have I?
Have you?
Has she/he/it?
Have we?
Have you?
Have they?

El verb "to have" també s'utilitza com a auxiliar de les formes compostes

grammar_To do

El verb "to do" pot utilitzar-se com a verb ordinari que significa "fer" o com a verb auxiliat. La seva conjugació en el present simple és la següent:

Com a verb ordinari amb el significat de "fer" hem de distingir-lo d'un altre verb, "to make", que tambié es tradueix al català per "fer", encara que aquest últim amb el significat de "fabricar":

I make a cake.....Yo faig un pastís.
What are you doing this evening?........Qué fas aquesta tarda?

Com a verb auxiliar, s'utiliza per construir les formes negatives i d'interrogació del present simple i del passat simple(però nosaltres només ens basem en el present):
I don't know that
He doesn't know that
Do you go to the cinema?.....Yes, I do
Does he go to the cinema?........No, he doesn'tgramm

Com es pot observar a les formes negatives es poden utilitzar contraccions:

Do not ----- don't
Does not ---- doesn't

grammar_Present continuous

El Present continuous s'utilitza per descriure accions que es desenvolupen en el present.

Esta compost pel verb "to be" i un verb especial anomenat gerundi (gerund). El gerundi es forma generalment afegint -ing al final del verb.

I am walking
You are walking
She/He/It is walking
We are walking
You are walking
They are walking
I am walking.........Jo estic caminant.
They are laughing.......Ells estan rient.
Per a fer la negació, és fa fent la negació del verb "to be" a més del verb en gerundi (acabat en -ing).
He isn't eating.............Ell no esta menjant
We aren't playing..........Nosaltres no estem jugant
Totes aquestes oracions es poden convertir en interrogatives portant el verb "to be" al començament de l'oració:

Are you laughing?.........Esteu vosaltres rient?
Is he swiming?............Està ell nedant?
El present continuous sol anar acompanyat d'adverbis com: Now, at the moment, this week, this month, this year.
I am studing English this year.
You are playing football at the moment.
Hi ha verbs que mai poden anar en present continu, i aquest ho faran sempre en present simple, alguns d'aquets verb són:
- see...................veure
- hear.................sentir/escoltar
- love..................estimar
- hate.................odiar
- prefer..............preferir

grammar_Present simple

El present simple, s'utilitza per expressar accions habituals i amb certa freqüència.

La seva conjugació és la següent:

I run
You run
She /He /It runs
We run
You run
They run

Com has pogut comprovar només hi ha dues formes verbals una per a la 3a persona del singular i l'altre per a la resta de persones.

És important fixar-se en la formació de la 3a persona del singular on s'afegeix una -S en la majoria dels verbs, però per a aquells verbs acabats en "ss", "sh", "ch", "x", "o", es forma afegint-hi una -ES. Per altra banda si el verb acaba en "y", es forma substituint aquesta en "i" i a continuació -ES:

I watch TV..........She watches TV
You study..............He studies

Les oracions negatives es formen amb l'auxiliar "to do", habitualment en les seves formes contretes: per a les persones "I, you, we, they", s'utilitza "don´t" (= do not) , i per a les persones "he, she, it" s'utilitza "doesn´t" (= does not).

I don't play tennis.................Jo no jug al tennis
She doesn´t go to the cinema..........Ella no va al cinema
We don´t know the answer.........Nosaltres no sabem la resposta

La forma interrogativa es forma també amb l'auxiliar "to do" al començament de l'oració ("do" amb les persones "I, you, we, they"; "does" amb "he, she, it").
Do you play tennis?.................Jugues al tennis?
Does she go to the cinema?.........Va ella al cinema?
Do we know the answer?.................Coneixem la resposta?

El present simple com hem dit abans s'utilitza per descriure accions que es fan habitualment i per tant sol anar acompanyat dels següents adverbis:
- always.................sempre
- seldom................rarament
- sometimes.........alguns cops
- frequently..........freqüentment
- never..................mai
- often...................sovint
- usually...............usualment
- rarelly................rarament
- occasionally.......ocasionalment
